KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — A man in his 40s was killed and another rider was seriously injured when their motorcycles collided at a traffic‑light junction near Masjid Taman Ria Jaya early this morning.
Harian Metro reported that the crash occurred at about 2.30am and that the deceased died at the scene from severe injuries.
It is believed that the collision happened when one of the riders allegedly ran a red light, although police are still investigating the claim.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said initial investigations showed the crash involved two motorcycles at the junction.
“The deceased was believed to be travelling straight from Cinta Sayang towards Jalan Metro, while the seriously injured rider was believed to have exited from Jalan PKNK,” he said.
Police said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a post‑mortem and both motorcycles were taken to the police station to assist investigations.
Hanyan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
He urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Kuala Muda district police traffic investigation officer or visit the nearest police station.
Police said a separate crash at about 8am in Tikam Batu claimed the life of a female motorcyclist after a collision with a car.
