MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives votes on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, May 11, after debates wrap up.
Pronouncements by party leaders and ranking House members indicate that Duterte will be impeached with an overwhelming number of votes, exceeding the constitutional one-third threshold.
Despite indications that more than 106 out of 318 lawmakers have already committed to vote for impeachment, Duterte’s few sympathizers in the House are likely to put up a fight in the plenary and question the integrity of the impeachment proceedings.
Duterte is accused of misusing public funds, amassing ill-gotten wealth, and making death threats against Marcos. She and her legal team snubbed all committee hearings.
