Singapore offers consular help to citizens in Philippines after Mindanao quake as PM sends condolences
SINGAPORE, June 15 — Singapore’s Foreign Ministry has reached out to its citizens in areas affected by the recent earthquake in Mindanao, the Philippines, and stands ready to provide any necessary consular assistance.
The ministry in a statement on Monday said it was closely monitoring the situation and that there had been no reports of Singaporeans injured in the earthquake.
“We have reached out to e-registered Singaporeans in the affected area to render any necessary consular assistance,” it said.
“Singaporeans in the affected area should remain vigilant and take necessary precautions for their personal safety in view of possible aftershocks,” the ministry added.
The powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southern Philippines on June 8, killing at least 61 people and affecting more than 346,000 others.
The foreign ministry said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had written to Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr to convey condolences over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the recent disaster and to offer assistance if required. — Bernama
