We’ll govern alone if we win, says Johor BN chairman

PETALING JAYA: Johor Barisan Nasional has ruled out forming a coalition government with any other party after the July 11 state election.

Its chairman, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, said the decision to go solo had drawn criticism, including accusations of racism for refusing to cooperate with DAP.

“Because of our refusal to cooperate with any party, including DAP, we have been accused of being arrogant, conceited, and even racist simply because of political differences.

“If given the mandate and if the people continue to place their trust in us to govern the state, Johor BN will not form a coalition with any political party,” he said at the BN candidates announcement ceremony at the Johor Umno headquarters in Johor Bahru today.

Onn Hafiz urged the 56 candidates to campaign for a stable, principled state government capable of continuing the Maju Johor 2030 agenda.

He also called on those not selected to remain united behind the coalition.

“While the ones contesting are single individuals, the ones who will win are all of us – the entire BN team,” he said.

BN is contesting all 56 seats in the election, with 37 candidates from Umno, 15 from MCA and four from MIC.

Onn Hafiz will defend his Machap seat, while former health minister Dr Adham Baba returns to contest Pasir Raja. Alwiyah Talib, who left Bersatu earlier this month and rejoined Umno, will defend her Endau seat.
