'Bring rain gear': Trump's Great American State Fair to be plagued with 'heavy downpours'

President Donald Trump's highly touted "Great American State Fair" got off to a rough start Wednesday night, with NBC News estimating only slightly over a thousand attendees showed up for the opening rally on the National Mall.

That sparse turnout set the tone for what could be a disappointing weekend for the president, with those considering attending being warned to expect deteriorating weather conditions, including brutal humidity, spotty showers, and a significant threat of thunderstorms.

Wednesday night, the sparse crowd was treated to Kash Patel’s girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, reportedly “murdering” the National Anthem, followed by an appearance by the president, who insisted that America is the “hottest country,” as supporters walked out on him as he talked.

The weather forecast offers no salvation for the struggling multi-day event. According to DC's WJLA Chief Meteorologist Veronica Johnson, Thursday represents the best opportunity for fair attendance, with low humidity levels and comfortable conditions.

But Friday deteriorates quickly, with Johnson predicting temperatures will climb to around 90 degrees, with spotty morning showers giving way to isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Saturday shapes up as the worst day of the weekend, with Johnson advising it, "...will likely be the most unsettled day of the weekend. While the morning may begin with just a few breaks in the weather, rain and thunderstorm chances increase significantly after noon," adding, "Some storms could produce heavy downpours, leading to temporary interruptions for outdoor activities. Bring rain gear and expect occasional delays if thunderstorms move through."

According to the meteorologist, Sunday offers a bright spot: high pressure will build back into the region, bringing sunshine, lower humidity, and breezes with temperatures around 85 degrees.
