JOHOR BAHRU, June 27 — The nomination process for the 16th Johor state election at all 56 nomination centres proceeded smoothly today without any untoward incidents.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police had not received any reports of incidents that could disrupt the process.
He said 4,832 police officers and personnel were deployed to ensure the nomination process ran smoothly.
“Police have also approved 26 campaign permits statewide so far and expect more permits to be issued during the campaign period,” he told reporters after observing the nomination process for the Puteri Wangsa seat at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Dato Onn here today.
He reminded all political parties and candidates to campaign responsibly and comply with election laws and regulations.
Ab Rahaman also warned against any actions that could threaten public order, adding that the police are prepared to handle any situation during the campaign period.
The Election Commission has set July 7 for early voting and July 11 for polling day. — Bernama
