PH candidate Nur Hafiz Roslan said he will carry out the proposals drawn up for Machap wholeheartedly.
SIMPANG RENGGAM: Nur Hafiz Roslan, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Machap seat in the Johor state election, is unfazed by the prospect of facing Johor Barisan Nasional chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the incumbent assemblyman and menteri besar.
Nur Hafiz, 41, an Amanah Youth executive committee member, said the contest officially pits two major political coalitions against each other in a battle for the support of Machap voters.
“I am confident and believe that we have no reason to fear contesting in Machap because we know that PH can offer something better to the people here.
“Having examined the shortcomings that need to be addressed, I believe improvements can be made, particularly in Machap,” he told FMT.
Nur Hafiz, a native of Sri Lalang, said he would unveil his manifesto for Machap soon.
“We will present our pledges to the people one by one, detailing what PH as a whole can offer, as well as specific proposals for Machap residents.
“I will carry out this effort wholeheartedly,” he said.
He hoped the voters in Machap would give him the opportunity to serve and contribute to the constituency.
Yesterday, the Election Commission officially confirmed a straight fight between Onn Hafiz and Nur Hafiz for the Machap seat.
Onn Hafiz was accompanied by a star-studded group of supporters when he arrived at the nomination centre. Among the Umno bigwigs present were party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, former Umno Youth chiefs Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin, as well as former Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad.
Nur Hafiz was accompanied by several Amanah leaders, including vice-president Dr Hatta Ramli, amid shouts of “Reformasi”, as he made his way to the centre.
In the 2022 state polls, Onn Hafiz won the seat with a 6,543-vote majority, defeating Azlisham Azahar of Perikatan Nasional, R Sangaran of Muda, and Sharuddin Md Salleh of Pejuang.
Polling will take place on July 11, with early voting fixed for July 7.
