Will it be lights out or reinvention? Singapore’s Golden Mile Cinema up for sale

SINGAPORE, June 29 — A large cinema space at Golden Mile Tower has been placed on the market with a guide price of S$31 million (RM108.5 million), as owners look to attract buyers eyeing its scale and redevelopment potential.

The strata-titled unit at 6001 Beach Road spans roughly 104,991 sq ft across several floors and includes four auditoriums with seating for up to 2,000 people, alongside office space on the upper levels, Singapore news outlet CNA reported today.

“There is potential to reconfigure the premises into a single large auditorium with a seating capacity of close to 2,000, or to partially convert the space into alternative uses such as an event venue, media production studio, or gym,” CBRE capital markets director Joshua Giam was quoted as saying.

He added that the asset “offers a high degree of versatility”, with “strong interest” expected from both end-users and investors given its scale and location.

The listing, handled exclusively by CBRE, values the property at about S$295 (RM1,032) per sq ft and is open to foreign and corporate buyers without additional buyer’s stamp duty.

Carnival Cinemas currently occupies part of the space, screening Bollywood and regional films, while another operator, Filmhouse, runs screenings elsewhere in the same building after taking over a former cinema site.

The wider Golden Mile Tower cinema ecosystem has seen churn in recent years, including the abrupt closure of The Projector in 2024 after it entered voluntary liquidation owing more than S$1.2 million (RM4.2 million) to creditors.

The sale will be conducted via an expression of interest exercise closing on August 4 at 3pm, with market watchers expecting interest from both entertainment operators and redevelopment-focused investors.
