6th Cross-Strait Sun Yat-sen Forum Draws Record Participation, Signs 19 Industrial Projects

The 6th Cross-Strait Sun Yat-sen Forum, held from June 27 to 29 in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, drew a record 2,000 participants from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, making it the largest in the forum’s history. The event, themed ‘Carrying Forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Spirit of Endeavor and Working Together for the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation,’ featured the highest proportion of young Taiwanese participants to date, according to organizers.

During the opening ceremony, the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government and the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland signed the Strategic Framework Agreement on Deepening Zhongshan-Taiwan Economic and Trade Cooperation to Promote Integrated Development, establishing an institutional foundation for long-term industrial cooperation. The forum also hosted the ‘Taiwan Businesses Gather in Zhongshan, Industries Glow in the Greater Bay Area’ economic and trade exchange conference, where 19 industrial projects were signed. These included seven Taiwan-invested projects in sectors such as semiconductor supporting industries, electronic components, smart home products, high-end fitness equipment, and medical devices, as well as 12 Shenzhen-Zhongshan collaborative projects covering new energy vehicle components, industrial robotics, memory chip packaging, advanced specialty materials, and integrated cultural, tourism, and commercial developments.

Cultural exchange activities included an evening tour of the century-old Sunwen West Road Arcade Pedestrian Street and visits to the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, where participants studied revolutionary archives and paid homage to Sun’s statue. Many participants noted that these activities provided a platform for sustained exchanges among young people across the strait, emphasizing shared cultural roots as a foundation for cross-strait spiritual integration.

Taiwan business representatives praised Zhongshan’s business environment. Zhang Congyuan, Chairman of Huali Industrial Group, which has operated in Zhongshan for over 20 years, commended the city’s enterprise service philosophy of ‘staying out of businesses’ way when everything runs smoothly while providing prompt support whenever needed,’ which he said helped the company become a leading global manufacturer of athletic footwear.

Guo Wenhai, secretary of the CPC Zhongshan Municipal Committee, invited Taiwan businesses to invest in Zhongshan, highlighting the city’s strong industrial infrastructure and high-quality government services. He emphasized that leveraging the opportunities from the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link would create broader prospects for cooperation and shared growth for enterprises from both sides of the strait.

The forum, marking the 160th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s birth, was seen by participants as creating new channels for cultural exchanges and industrial cooperation. Looking ahead, Zhongshan plans to organize regular initiatives such as entrepreneurship support programs for young people from Taiwan, youth exchange activities, and Guangdong-Taiwan industrial matchmaking events, contributing to integrated cross-strait development.
